Note from the Filmmakers

“The story of Nadupa centers on a girl stepping into responsibilities that are traditionally assigned to boys, showing that leadership and responsibility are not limited by gender. Telling stories about social issues is important to me because many challenges exist within the community but are not openly discussed. There are strong cultural norms that limit women’s ability to own property or take on leadership roles. Storytelling provides a way to challenge these norms and create space for conversation. It encourages communities to reflect, adapt, and grow. For me, storytelling is ultimately a tool for awareness, connection, and change.”

Daniel

“Focusing on social issues is important to me because these are the realities we live with every day. Nadupa is a story that may seem simple on the surface: a girl fighting for her mother’s land after her father’s death. But when you look deeper, it touches on issues like grief and exploitation. We want people to see these situations from a different perspective. Our goal is to present familiar issues in new ways whether it’s social challenges, cultural practices, or even innovation so that people can reflect and possibly take action.”
